Rick Denzien

Bio from Rick’s 2007 press kit; an updated bio is coming soon.

Born and raised near Buffalo, NY, Denzien’s recording life really began when he got a tape recorder as a gift from his parents. It didn’t take long for him to master the device recording everything in his audio field. At sixteen he began writing songs and recording them with his best friends.

His music career took further root in the high school chorus room. Encouraged by his vocal teacher songs began to fill his notebooks. At college he majored in religion, philosophy and psychology – and even more song writing and recording. His entire senior year was spent writing & recording at a New York State recording program. A year earlier he started a songwriter creative group in his college town which rotated meetings in area recording studios.

As opportunities presented he would perform solo – leading him gig by gig to a solitary life on the road. He found himself touring all over Eastern US and managed four tours in Europe, playing for thousands of fans and appeared in coffee houses, clubs, even on national television and radio.

He landed in Philadelphia, where he started his own recording studio. While recording & producing hundreds of artists, he has created 4 CD’s of his own.

His songwriter archive CD Heal the Land got him local college airplay which led to his first Major Label Engineer spot with the Blood Hound Gang’s “Use Your Fingers” on Columbia / Sony. His 2nd Songwriter release Laser Writing on the Moon won a Billboard Songwriter’s Award, cracked the play list of over 35 AAA radio stations, and was distributed nationally through mail order chains like Tower Records. His first artist CD Exit 21 was a return to his acoustic roots.

He’s performed at top Philadelphia venues including the Tin Angel, North Star Bar, The Pontiac, The Barn, and many others, and also appeared as a guest artist on local Philadelphia rock radio shows. He’s won local awards and band contests, and has been featured on regional compilation CDs.

Combining lyrical honesty with a musical edge, he tries to write and record his own restlessness, that once-bitten wariness. His instrumental mastery captures new and mature music fans. In Denzien’s own words, “The truth on the road is, you never know what’s around the next bend. With music, you can be a real ambassador for the things that you can’t see.”
