Reviews: Rick Denzien

Artist: Rick Denzien
CD: Exit 21 (Slot-1 Entertainment Inc)

Rick Denzien is a singer-songwriter who plays rock music. Commercially popular rock these days lacks content (and often quality instrumentation) while Denzien's latest CD, (never straying from its rock foundation) is a powerful selection of 13 great tunes written with insight and sensitivity. The overall sound evokes the edgy tension of Jackson Browne (lyrically) and a hint of the vocals of James Taylor and David Wilcox.

Denzien penned all of the tunes contained herein -- thoughtful, political, honest, earthy and socially conscious with a wide world view. Driving guitar riffs and solid rhythm anchor each tune.

One of the best tunes in overall sound, though perhaps not lyrically (although certainly succinct and sharp in its brevity) is "Something," a catchy, haunting, acoustic-electric mix that really flows from the acoustic intro to the short, electric outro.

Rick Denzien could be one of the best of the modern-day writers -- yet he does it utilizing the driving beat of rock music -- and makes it work like a charm!
