Existence
Rick Denzien
Lyrics
Title: Existence
Words & Music By: Scott Carpenter & Rick Denzien
I wanted to know about the shallow existence I called living
So, I went down to local the places
Where the most alive were supposed to go
But all I saw were skeletons, and hollow shells walking corpses
Who sold their lives for a twenty-dollar thrill
I stumbled through the mannequins, desperate to find a glimpse of freedom
But the farther on I stumbled the harder any path became to find
Deafened by the music choked by the smoke
Shattered by the laughter
Unable to distinguish any truth from any fantasies and lies.
Is this all I have to look forward to?
Death on earth to prepare for death below
Can it be that I have lost myself?
Or was I never me at all?
But round this time, I heard a voice behind me
and it seemed to taste of freedom
It said there was light if I would only turn around the other way
And though I was sure I looked that way a million times before
I turned and blinked the light I saw illuminated like the brightest day
The breath of real life was breathed into my soul
And now there is sunlight wherever I may go
